Some More Great Old Sexist Ads

These never get old, except for everything about them.

I know that having messy hair also makes me want to kill myself, but I usually don't use a noose, some poison and a gun to do it. Points to this messy haired gal for making sure she does it right the first time.

"Be the you he likes", not that terrible gorilla beast you become when you have cramps. Midol helps you "soothe accompanying irritability" that is inherent to every woman on all the periods she has in her life forever.

Housewives get tired of "having to do the same dull work every day" so much that it's a "mild form of torture"! Being a housewife makes any lady experience "boredom and emotional fatigue", whatever that is. It's definitely not a rewarding and life-altering experience for any gal, and surely a man isn't going to "make beds and get meals", no sir!

This ad isn't so bad to me because it looks like it was made a long time ago, before the invention of photography. Nevertheless, back then there were 5 million women who wanted to get married. Listerine spent millions of dollars and many years asking every female on the planet if it was true. They all agreed that their main purpose in life was to find a man, marry him, and never be irritable or bored.

Aww, the Volkswagon is dented! Look how sad it looks. Someone must have let a woman drive it! Everyone knows that ladies get flustered and overwhelmed when they have to do two things at once, like press a gas pedal and turn a steering wheel. She was probably applying lipstick at the time or lighting a menthol cigarette. The first line of the copy says "Women are soft and gentle, but they hit things." Truer words were never spoken.

Women of the future will make the Moon a cleaner place to live. Thankfully, future technologies are in place so that women can keep the Moon sparkling clean. They also must adhere to strict safety measures like wearing a space helmet that stops at the neck, and wearing lots of mascara to deflect glare. Hands do not need to be covered on the Moon to allow for better scrubbing.

Absolut Spotlight

So basically my dream in life is to work in advertising or marketing for a booze company. Any booze company. I can sell what I know, and I know booze. Plus it's really easy to make people buy it right?

WRONG-O!

Here in Canada there are sooooooo many restrictions that you have to consider when making an advertisement for alcohol. You can't make it look like a fun time in any way shape or form. That's why I admire this type of advertising when it's done really well.

Today I wanted to shine a spotlight on the lovely print ads for Absolut Vodka. They're simple, clean and effective, and very modifiable. I think their strength lies in their simplicity, and they stand out in a magazine based on the one crisp image of the bottle and the unmistakable font.

This is a little spin-off series they had with the tagline "In an Absolut world".

This last one has an invisible caption that reads "In an Absolut world there are no labels".

Cheers to you Absolut Vodka! You make me want to drink you.

The LG GX200 - More Battery, More Talk

This next series of ads is for the LG GX200, which I'm assuming is some kind of non-Iphone phone. This campaign won Gold in the 2011 Clios, probably taking on the spin that it surpasses the Iphone in battery life, which lasts about as long as it takes to read this post.

I like the visuals in this campaign, but all the "books" pictured seem to be for conversations that you don't want to be having for a really long time. I get that they imply that the battery will last forever, but there's nothing more painful than having a one-sided, super long conversation with, say, an old person.

I remember once this summer I was taking a bus from Toronto to Montreal and there was this little Snooki on the back of the bus that talked in her outside voice for 2 hours straight about her life and all of her problems. It was horrible, everyone on the bus was looking at each other and doing the exasperated face, but nobody said anything.

When the ride was over, we felt like we had endured some sort of traumatic bonding experience from living through this horrible woman who made our bus ride just that much shittyer.

Basically I remember praying the whole way for her phone battery to die, as it was my only means of salvation, but alas, it never did. I guess in a way that whole thing was good for her, and terrible for everyone else.

The Flip Side

Great new ad campaign by LG. Body copy in the corner says

"Home theater 3D sound LG.
 Every side of the sound."

Fair Trade? NAH, Trade Fair!

The time has come, The Walrus (formerly The Beaver) said...
for the
150th  Annual CreComm Magazine Fair!!!

We're going to be launching a BRAND NEW magazine. You may have heard of it, it's called
Black Tutu Magazine!

Let's go through the 5 W's

Who's Gonna Be There: Many many people, but the most awesome of all will be over at Black Tutu Magazine's booth, obviously.

What The @#$% Is It? A launch party for over 15 start-up student mags. We're all competing for your attention, so basically it's gonna be a like "Hey! Look over here! Cupcakes" type deal. Basically it'll be a whole atrium filled with cupcakes.

Where The Heck Is It? Red River College's The Princess Campus. Located in the beautiful Exchange District over on 160 Princess st. The show happens right as you walk in, so you can't miss it. Look for the hot girls in the bright pink tops and tutus (hint: that's us).

When Is This Going Down?  March 30th, 2012 from 12-4 pm.

Why? Why not?

It'll be fun and exciting and we're rightfully proud of our hard work.

This is a sexy snippet of what you're in store for if you come.

Well now you can! With this super-beautiful campaign for the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
This is one smooth way to make the orchestra look cool. Good work, com-padre, carry on.
Can you guess what instruments they belong to?

A Whole Buncha Sexist Ads

For your entertainment...
Did she make the stove bleed too?

Does that mean bachelors starved to death back in the day?

 Our hands are different.

What is this ad even for?

The book is a Harlequin romance, obviously.

Funny how Palmolive is now a dish soap...

 Goldie Hawn's earlier days.

"woe be unto you"? Looks to me like she's enjoying herself.

To be honest, I really like this ad. You totally wouldn't be able to get away with it now, but I think the copy is cheeky and fun if you take it with a sense of humor.

Now this one is just downright mean.

I guess maybe if the alternative is nothing. Anyone notice how her waist is smaller than her head?

Fingernail comment aside, this is definitely a take-charge woman.

Who is talking to who in this one?

Love the cute little copy at the bottom, but they kindof hit you over the head with it.

 That is just not true.

Stay tuned for more!
(There's tons of these)
